However, Artificial Intelligence seems to have absolutely no idea about what a land surveyor should look like.

what AI thinks a land surveyor looks like..

sometimes it invents things it doesn't understand

Granted, I doubt many out there are trying to use Stable Diffusion or other AI tools like DALL-E to generate images of land surveyors doing this and that. However, I have. Mostly because I am curious about how much the public actually knows about what a land surveyor is or does. For example, if you run a prompt like "a photorealistic painting of a professional land surveyor in the future using a total station instrument to measure a mountain holding a plumb bob and gammon reel" you'll get something like the image above. Here are a few others that might make someone wonder whether AI knows any more than the general public about the importance of Land Surveyors.

As technology continues to advance, artificial intelligence (AI) has become more prevalent in various industries. However, the field of land surveying seems to be an exception in the AI world. Despite the crucial role that land surveyors play in the development and maintenance of our communities, AI seems to lack an understanding of what a land surveyor actually is.

This reflects the fact that, unfortunately, most of the general public has little to no understanding of the importance of land surveying. However, it is essential to recognize that land surveyors are the ones responsible for providing any and all accurate measurements and data that form the foundation of our built environment, which society relies upon. They ensure that boundaries are properly marked, maps are up to date, and construction projects are completed to meet local and national regulations.

The field of land surveying is more complex than just measuring and mapping land. It requires a thorough understanding of geometry, mathematics, geodesy, and laws related to property rights. Land surveyors must also possess strong communication and critical thinking skills to effectively work with clients, design professionals, and government agencies.

The lack of understanding of the role of land surveyors has led to the undervaluation of their work and the misconception that their skills can be easily replicated by AI. However, the reality is that AI cannot replace the human touch and expertise that land surveyors bring to their work. The accuracy of land survey data is critical for ensuring public safety, protecting property rights, and promoting sustainable development, and only a licensed land surveyor can provide the level of precision required.

Is AI Useless to Land Surveyors? Absolutely not.

All of this may seem like "preaching to the choir" inside a community for land surveyors. Nevertheless, there are many ways that land surveyors can use AI to improve their businesses.

As you can see, there are many opportunities for Land Surveyors to both use and improve AI.
With everything that is happening with the big tech giants this week, a lot of people are thinking about the sustainability of platforms like Facebook, Instagram and Whatsapp. Quite a few that I have talked with are concerned not only with the future of their own personal data but also the questionable practices being used to monetize each and every aspect of our lives. I just wanted to share with you just one conversation that I had today with a student surveyor in the community.

Questions from a Young Surveyor:
"I only recently made a FB profile so that I could learn best practices in Surveying. Yesterday was horrible for me only because I could not access my notes inside FB, gathered from experiences shared by older surveyors. This has me wondering...Why do surveyors put all of their knowledgebase on Facebook inside closed groups, where it is impossible to search for anything specific and disappears everyday? In fact, they all seem to be creating competing groups, which, in my opinion is ridiculous. Isn't this further harming the profession?"

Anyone paying attention has to admit, she has a valid point. It is no secret that the surveying profession is having a tough time attracting and supporting new talent, difficulty maintaining awareness in the public eye and an even more difficultly in educating, mentoring and training new surveyors. Would it not be more beneficial in the long run to have all of our collective surveyor knowledge archived and accessible inside a site that Surveyors can totally control, like Land Surveyors United Community, where it can be organized and owned by land land surveyors, rather than Zuck? Even more importantly, where support isn't monetized? Look around you....there are no advertisements or spammers on LSU and your expertise can be not only share exclusively with surveyors, you can fully control your own groups too! This is what LSU was built for....to empower surveyors. We have low overhead and as a grassroots community, we run on member donations and traffic to our jobs board. It is as simple as that. Facebook, in many ways, has just become the print industry all over again for surveyors....privatizing the collective knowledge base. Indeed, Facebook was built for that, but LSU was built for you, the surveyor!

Just 2 years ago, there were only 9 Land Surveying related groups on Facebook. Today, there are 104 and counting. Here is a collection for you to sift though if you are interested...i gathered them all in one place for you. Why is this important? To illustrate my point that we are not working together. Every group is competing for attention from the same users, further splintering the divide.

Please don't take me the wrong way... I love the FB groups and for those who know the "square root of Arkansas" :) My favorite group The Field Crew isn't even a group that I created. You can learn a lot from the older, wiser surveyors in the mix. However, the ability to quickly spit replies and share a point of interest does not only exist on FB, yet they have made it so simple and convenient that many of us never stop to think how important the knowledge is for those who never get a chance to see the post...then tomorrow it fades into the abyss. There are a LOT of brilliant surveyors on FB, out of convenience, but there are also many attempting to build and grow group after group, essentially giving facebook all of the knowledge needed by the next generation (that doesn't use Facebook). We are killing each other while trying to compete for numbers. It shouldn't be this way. We should all be trying to UNITE surveyors in one place, so that we can have the most impact on the public and the next generation surveyor. Even if group admins would periodically archive and download the information inside groups and then reupload it to LSU into hubs, it would be far more useful to the next generation than leaving it locked up inside Zucks groups. Put it this way... LSU has one of the largest private facebook groups for surveyors on the platform. But even with over 38k surveyors, I stopped pushing the group 2 years ago because I saw the writing on the wall...literally.

Land Surveying knowledge should belong to surveyors, not Zuckerburg. There are now close to 20k surveyors on LSU but how often do you ask questions or share experience there rather than here? How often do you share a photo here inside the community, rather than on Facebook where it only gets eyeballs for a single day? What do we need to do to make this happen? Should we plaster the site with ads and sell your data to get you interested? That is of course a rhetorical question because I do not make any money off of this site and I will never sell your data. But I ask you this....If the community were to have a full blown mobile app, would you contribute more? I will build that for you if so.

My point is this.... Why not take advantage of the experience and expertise of the surveyors inside the community, where you can easily see the credentials of the other surveyors you communicate with? You can control the groups (hubs)the same way and with a lot more capabilities...all you have to do is ask and you can control your own hub. There are hub groups inside this community for every location on earth, all operating in unison. When associations and organizations are having a hard time getting people to their events, I say stop paying sub-par web designers to build stupid wix sites which never get found by search engines until years after the event has passed. Instead, simply be more active in your local hub and share your important announcement and events where they not only can be found, but also where you can send a notification to surveyors in any location. There is no reason to re-invent the wheel everytime you need to get important information out. The hard work of creating the platform has already been done for you. The only thing left for you to do is use it.

I know this may seem like a plug coming from me but I didn't build Land Surveyors United to be the king or controller of anything. I don't make money from the community and I will never sell your information. I built this community so that you, the land surveyor can easily find and post jobs, find equipment, share stories, support one another, organize locally, attract new customers for your business, train new surveyors and celebrate the retired surveyors of the world, who hold all of the knowledge needed if we are to ever fix the problems that exist, due to decades of not being connected and organized. Yet, this type of thing may never be fully appreciated because surveyors have seemingly become too comfortable with being taken advantage of by the current ways of doing things on the internet. This shouldn't be the case.

It appears as though the situation has quietly gotten so bad that surveyors have become disoriented when someone actually goes out of their way for over a decade to build a solution to their problems, if it isn't funded by advertisements. Why haven't the big print magazines and manufacturers mentioned this community in all of this time? Because I do not buy ads on their sites and I will not allow their advertisements dominate the sidebars of our community. I simply do not feel like monetizing the support issues and troubles of land surveyors is an ethical way to do business.

So again, this young surveyor I spoke to today has a valid point. Business as usual is no longer sustainable, considering the problems that business as usual has caused the surveying profession as a whole. Every organization seems content with being an island in itself, getting nowhere fast. New surveyors feel like a lonely island too. They don't even know what to do, many times, until they see how negatively more experienced surveyors react to certain things shared on Facebook, at times bringing out the worst in all of us.

Some surveyors in the field appear to believe that there has never been a better time to be a surveyor. But for surveying companies, the challenges are just beginning. The public has never before been as confused about the role of a surveyor as they are today. They are confused about having to wait 14 weeks for a survey and usually wait until the last minute to have a survey performed, as a necessary evil. Most of the time when my phone rings, it is someone trying to fix a problem caused by an inexperienced surveyor. The vast amount of fraud that circulates creates trust issues for which anyone rarely recieves closure. The splintered state of communication between surveyors and the public display of character bashing and nonprofessional disagreements only add fuel to the fire of thier confusion. Couple that with the unfortunate popular notion that any person with a GPS phone can locate anything and we have a recipe for disaster which must be mitigated. This situation will never be remedied and will only get worse if the surveyors of the world rely on Facebook to solve the problem. It will never happen because facebook does not have your best interest or future in mind when they make their decisions..

For 15 years, even before Facebook, Land Surveyors United has had a mission which can be found in the name. The importance of being able to find what you need to improve your surveying career should not be buried inside FB, monetized by the big corporations and blocked off inside now hundreds of small competing groups, all trying to game an algorithm for your attention. This is of course, my humble opinion. However, over the years I have met countless others who also read the writing on the walls -pun intended.

She concluded: "Too many surveyors are stuck in the past. It just seems lazy for everyone, knowing the challenges faced by the profession, to put their faith in FB to usher in a new generation. FB is great for sharing photos, but I need a mentor. My generation doesn't even use facebook...it's for old people. Let's bring everyone together and face these challenges as a community. I believe the way surveyors share all of thier hard earned insight and experience on FB to be total collective self sabotage, in the highest form. I will be sharing what I learn on LSU with other surveyors because it feels horrible knowing that FB and other sites with heavy advertising are making money off my support needs."

Providing advice and information to help designers, architects and developers is the sphere of their work.

Land surveyors play an integral role when it comes to land development, from land subdivision planning and designing the final road, utility, and landscaping construction. Land surveyors are the first people to be enquired for calculation and chart for the land on any construction site. Often the most complicated element of building any and every establishment is the requirement of a bridge or tunnel, the inspection team can assist guarantee they are situated precisely where they need it.

After full construction, an inspector would be hired to help in repair or rebuild the road following an incident. In these kinds of studies, GPS and 3D mapping technology will also play an essential part as they provide more precise geographical data.

Following the construction of any highways, extra surveys are required and the same is included for road repairs or maintenance, which may be needed for a multitude of purposes. Today, special laser devices allow this to be accomplished from the side of the highway, eliminating nearly the necessity to close streets or lanes. To turn maps into an effective communication tool, you need to reach your audiences. To reach your audiences, the map must present itself in a simple way that gives a sense of comfort and easement to the map users. There are many GIS Mapping Companies that can create sophisticated yet simple-to-visualize maps that are truly making an impact in the Cartography world.

What is the Need for Simplicity in Map Making?

In a recent podcast, John Nelson talks about the creative side of the art of Cartography and also sheds some light on the skills necessary to make a good map. From his talk, we realized that there are different skills which are necessary to make a good map and among all these skills the most important, according to John Nelson, is simplicity!

While tools are making map-making easier but that’s going to gibberish if customers don’t get any value from your maps. To give value to your customers your maps should be effective which definitely demands experienced Geospatial specialists. A common mistake we often notice among geospatial specialists is that they try to put a lot of information on a single map often making it discouraging and sometimes even confusing.

Skills Necessary for a Map-maker

Experienced GIS specialists have to work on a variety of complicated tasks such as IT, analytics, and are not limited to being a good database manager and a good graphic designer.

Having a designing background will certainly help the geospatial engineer go a long way in bringing efficacy in cartography. Experience in using tools such as ‘Color Brewer’ and ‘Viz Palette’ will help cartographers to pick meaningful colors for their maps.

Future of Maps

I believe the future of maps is likely in the hands of people who are creative and can bring the various applications of maps to the common people across various verticals.

Authorized groups such as the North American Cartographic Information Society (NACIS) have been a source of inspiration to geniuses like John Nelson who have constantly referred to ‘NACIS’ for their own work. He has the opinion that maps can definitely be taken to a wide array of customers including the likes of Social Media, AI, Blockchain, and not just in Geography.

Conclusion

Map-making is not a big deal to make but to put it into a real-life application can be a little challenging if you lack creativity. Knowledge of the technicality is not enough to make it fit for today’s demanding audiences. Without a visual representation of how predictable data processes run in a GIS mapping company, you can't guess by not seeing any sample work.

Roundtable Discussion: What is the best total station you used in the field up to now?https://landsurveyorsunited.com/profiles/blog/list/roundtable-discussion-what-is-the-best-total-station-you-used-in-2021-05-26T21:30:00.000Z2021-05-26T21:30:00.000Z⚡Survenator⌁https://landsurveyorsunited.com/surveyors/Survenator

Fun fact: 116,000+ individuals have tried to join this community since March of 2007, but only those who clearly demonstrated within their profile the goal to improve themselves as surveyors and appear willing contribute to the longevity of surveying have been admitted. With that said, since our last update, we've accepted our 18,100th member, which is valuable, if not priceless, for the surveying profession. Nevertheless, in the grand scheme of things, numbers mean very little for future surveyors if we do not unify, build bridges of understanding and strengthen our body of knowledge, as a community of practice and passion. It is my hope that you will find more similarities than differences inside Land Surveyors United while learning something new everyday. Our goal is for all members to recognize that this is the place to come together, focus through the noise and share our percieved differences so that the similarities that we share in surveying become illuminated. Together, we are actively educating the public while supporting and celebrating each other's hard work, innovations and expertise. Thinking locally and surveying globally as a virtual l crew upon which all of us can depend for support is how we usher surveying into the next generation.

It is no secret that the boss doesn't understand you. You are most likely from a different generation and/or may have a different style of learning. One thing is for certain - you do not know what you are doing and that is ok. But imagine being able to save yourself the embarrassment of asking a surveying veteran a simple question about something which you are already expected to know. By asking for advice inside the New Surveyor App, you are asking ALL of the experienced surveyors in the community and crowdsourcing the answers. Not only that, you'll have the advice and expectations shared by your Party Chief so everyone is on the same page.

When we are more transparent about the current workload locally, they public will feel more informed and in turn, work with your time constraints. One of the ways that we are trying to help surveying companies convey these wait times to the public is to provide a search engine optimized surveying company directory where they can create a surveying company listing which can be edited on the fly without having to edit your website or calling your webmaster. Simply make a post here and in the post body, tell the public about your current normal wait. When things change, simply edit your listing which you control. There is no charge to be added to this directory...it was built to for you to use and its incredibly simple to use. If you want to help make this better, you might consider donating toward the upcoming Real Estate Agents App which aggregates Land Surveyors Near Them for referrals and waittimes when recommending a local land surveyor.

The future of the surveying profession depends on us. It is up to us to inspire a new flock of land surveyors in order to mitigate the current Age Gap and Knowledge Gap in land surveying. We hope that you'll see that lot of time and effort has gone into helping unify surveyors for International Surveyors Week in order to hopefully generate a critical mass of activity from the community to inspire a new generation of surveyors. For this reason, every single day of International Surveyors Week is dedicated to a different region of the planet. During the day dedicated to your geography we hope to have a continuous stream of land surveying photos, videos and discussions highlighting what it is like to be a land surveyor in your area of the world.

At the moment, we only need you to do 2 simple things:

You are ESSENTIAL! During this time of great universal confusion, Land Surveyors United Community is always here for you. Nevertheless, we come to you today to ask for your help.

The financial sustainability of the community is undergoing a massive overhaul (as you may have read in the Roadmap) but as the COVID-19 virus continues to spread, we need some help paying the bills associated with keeping our grassroots community alive and pushing forward into the future. Our goal is to have all of our paperwork and details worked out for our new organization we are assembling by summer - however, all of that has been temporarily stalled with everything going on. We cannot allow this community to become a casualty of this virus.

We do not necessarily want to blanket the site with advertisements. We do not want to have to start charging everyone for access and membership because some simply cannot afford it, but I (Justin) personally cannot afford to keep it all afloat without your help. So what we have for you is 3 ways for you to help in a way that ultimately will help you.

First Way to Help Community as a Member

Donate to the Community "Member Dues" on Honor System $15/year

Donate in any amount you can afford

Second Way to Help Community for Vendors

If you are a Vendor who sells products we will set up a Marketplace Hub for you and discuss a fair monthly rent to completely control your brand and sell products inside the community.

Visit Vendor Marketplace Presentation

Request a Vendor Hub to be set up for your company

* You also now get a dedicated mobile app for managing your hub!

Third Way to Help Community

If you cannot afford to contribute financially, help us by becoming more involved and assist with recruiting more surveyors to your Location Based Hubs. Follow the hub for your location if you haven't already and share relevant surveying photos, videos and post local land surveying news for other surveyors in your area. Invite other surveyors in your crew to follow and become active inside your location based hub. You can also Become a SURVambassador for your area of the world. Inside the Mobile Apps for Surveyors Page you can find several apps which make it easier to stay connected to your local hub on Land Surveyors United.

Tomorrow Night we will be hosting a Geoholics Anonymous Live Stream on the Covid-19 page

Guests for the Live Discussion:

Topics of Discussion:

Discuss what each of us is seeing as it pertains to how COVID19 is affecting the land surveying profession within their individual networks.

Discuss how this situation differs from what happen after 9/11 and the economic crash of 2008.

Discuss if there is any assistance available for displaced surveyors.

Discuss how this may affect the future of the profession and anything that can be done proactively to minimize the damage.

Stay vigilant and safe out there. Remember this: Whether or not your government recognizes it, you are essential. This will all pass eventually and when it does, we are hoping to have strengthened the surveying community on the grassroots level.

With so much going on in the world right now regarding COVID-19, it is difficult to celebrate National Surveyors Week in the ways that are so needed. The public needs education and awareness. Surveyors need education and training and more importantly, each other. In the United States, this week is undoubtedly National Surveyors Week, but it sure doesn't seem like it. Let's see what we can do to turn this around for the better.

Here are a few things to keep in mind as we try to salvage the remainder of National Surveyors Week and try to remain positive.

1) All 50 States in One Place All of the USA Chapter Hubs inside Land Surveyors United have a new Surveying Photos section where you can upload and share your best surveying moments and give other surveyors a glimpse of what it is like to be a surveyor in your state. Your photos inspire new surveyors to get into the profession and will motivate other surveyors in your state to become more active about promoting surveying locally.

2) Virtual Events instead of Cancellations Any and all events which have been cancelled on the state level due to Corona Virus can easily be attended virtually through your Chapter Hubs. Events which were originally geared to be informational or involve awards ceremonies can be streamed live to a page on your hub and can be attended by up to 16 other computers and can be virtually attended by an unlimited number of participants. I tried to work these details out with the NSPS when the outbreak occured but it looks like this sort of thing will have to be worked out on the state level. So if anyone would like to hold a virtual version of your event and stream it live, simply get in touch with me (Justin) and I will set everything up for you... All you need on your end is a computer with a webcam and I'll do the rest. Your participants will simply need to go to the URL at a specific time to tune into the stream. This practice of hosting virtual events is something we should have started a long time ago, as it is just as effective to provide information virtually as it is to be there in person. Save gas! Go Live! I can help!

3) There's an App for That Our United States Land Surveyors App is already being used by a lot of surveyors in the US. Simply visit the app and add the shortcut to your phone or data collector home screen and use the app to start conversations in your local state hub or share photos to the hub from your phone. Everything is all set up for you.. just share relevant stuff and put your company on the map!

Below you will find the quick links to all of the US chapter hubs... once inside your hub, simply click the follow button to contribute to the hub and to follow the posts added to your state.

After CAD technology has been invented, Architectural CAD drafting technology has improved by leaps and bounds where bigger work systems replaced the smaller ones.

The architecture, engineering and construction industry has a big influence from the digital drafting technology and has brought amazing results in the architectural drafting industry. The constant demand in the architectural world for the improved ideas and methods of designing, visualization and construction have led to the non-stop enhancement of CAD software technology.

The traditional methods of architectural designs were time-consuming, arduous, and labor-intensive, as the sketches and designs needed to be drawn by hand and one absolutely can’t make a mistake in it, otherwise, it had to be redrawn. Architectural CAD drafting was slowly becoming a norm when everything started being digitized including the architectural drawings. Architects had more flexibility to create multiple options for a single concept.

Importance of CAD Drafting in the Architecture Industry:

Faster changing preferences as per the requirements of the client.

Utilizing the architectural CAD drafting services in design and drafting projects led to the improvement of efficiency, better dimensional accuracy and is cost-effective.

You can utilize CAD drafting technology right from the planning stage.

Since the project file is editable, you can even make last-minute revisions to your project without worrying about the consequences.

The open-space framing option in AutoCAD allowed users to create geometry in model space.

Mechanical CAD Drawing and Drafting

It involves converting rough hand drawings into a complete set of architectural plans. It’s highly beneficial for architects, real estate developers, interior designers, and civil engineers, etc. Polosoft Technologies is a leading CAD services company that includes drawings of structural elements predominant for the architectural industry.

Architectural CAD Drawing

Architectural drawing is the backbone of the building design and plays a vital role in translating a design into a feasible structure. The use of CAD systems is becoming increasingly popular to overcome the complexity attached to the storage and management of paper-based architectural drawings. Using CAD design and drafting, you can effectively visualize the structure and design of your project after it gets completed. You can even visualize the structure from multiple angles.

What’s the Role of an Architectural Designer in This?

With the change of traditional technology, there’s always a necessity to evolve with the new modern technologies keeping in mind the ups and downs of it. Designers and drafters are now required to operate multiple CAD systems that are complex in nature and adapt to global trends. Global trends demand new ideas, methods of designing, visualizing, methods of designing, visualizing, building and operating structures. Small and mid-sized companies have replaced their large drafting departments with personnel who can handle CAD drafting and this step has helped them save costs.

Conclusion

To adapt to the new scenario of architectural drafting technology, CAD technology is evolving with new software that includes enhanced tools to increase productivity. Outsourcing CAD drafting services is the easiest and fastest way to increase your company’s productivity and not overburden your drafters. It initiates easier workflow and modifications. To get land survey projects done, an engineer needs a team of professional drafters, who deliver detailed construction CAD drawings, topographical profiles, and any other specifications required.

Different kinds of land survey draftings are done to get a complete picture of the survey performed by the land surveyors. These are some of the common surveys performed by land survey professionals.

ALTA Survey: An ALTA survey is specifically designed to satisfy the particular needs of lenders, corporations, and title companies for the development of commercial properties. A digitized version is prepared for the assessment and we do it from the sketch provided to us by the surveyor. An ALTA survey shows the boundaries of the property, location for improvement, fences, utility lines, roads, etc., along with the location of any easements. One should consider doing an ALTA survey when,

Buying a piece of vacant land.

Wanting detailed information about the land owned.

Buying or selling commercial real estate.

AS-Built Survey:

Often, there are variations in a building and it’s little different from the original plan. Variations may occur accidentally that is economically unfeasible to correct. An As-built survey is to record these variations. We collect the plot record and the sketch provided to us and provide you with a digitized version of the survey in DWG format. As-built surveys have the potential to be extremely valuable to the owners and the operators of infrastructure facilities and stakeholders in large infrastructure projects.

Construction As-built surveys may be required at different points during the construction process to monitor the construction as it’s occurring. Land surveyors need CAD drafting to design and update maps which consists of the complete layout of the project. The best recommendation would be outsourcing your land survey projects for AutoCAD 2d drafting and other requirements. It’ll be much cheaper and give you the fastest turnaround time.

The Ultimate Guide to Geo-spatial Datahttps://landsurveyorsunited.com/profiles/blog/list/the-ultimate-guide-to-geo-spatial-data2019-09-17T06:46:26.000Z2019-09-17T06:46:26.000ZLalit Tyagihttps://landsurveyorsunited.com/surveyors/LalitTyagi

Did you know that Geospatial Data is all around us? Weather reports, suggested routes on Google Maps, Geotagged tweets, store locations, and even airline routes, all of these represent Geospatial data. It’s important to know that the term only entered literature during the late 1980s and has been rising since then. So, what exactly is Geospatial data & why is it making all the rounds?

Geospatial Data

Any records in a dataset have locational information tied to them such as geographic data in the form of coordinates, address, city or ZIP code. GIS data is a form of Geospatial Data. The spatial reference component of most geographic data across domains is geographic coordinates, latitude, and longitude.

Types of Geo Data

Primarily, there are two types of Geo Data: Vector and Raster.

Vector Data: It consists of vertices and paths. The best way to visualize it is to think of it as a spreadsheet with columns that contain your regular data, but in addition, it always has an extra column.

That column describes the geometry. It explains how to draw a point, line or polygon that represents that feature on the Earth. In other words, vector data is the data that represents the location and shape of the geographic features through geometric shapes. Example: Point, line, and polygons.

Raster Data: It is made up of pixels and grid cells. If vector data is abstract, raster data is literal. Raster data is the data represented through a digital image.

It could be a bitmap image such as a TIFF or JPEG. This format is usually used for satellite imagery, aerial photography, elevation models and topographic maps. Raster data could even be a scanned map.

Geographic Themes:

The Geodata can be categorized into as many themes as you can, to be honest. As broad or as narrow to your liking. But primarily it can be categorized into two, cultural and Physical.

Being a surveyor is a challenging task and choosing the right land survey app can be even more time-consuming. A typo survey that used to take a 3-man crew and a couple of days can now be performed by one person with an RTK GPS receiver in less than 8 hours.

“GIS Surveyor” is one such application that can be used to make your survey faster, efficient and error-free. Here are some amazing things you can do using the application.

Avoiding Any Error In The Field: Even the tiniest of errors can lead to huge problems down the line, for the surveyors and also for the clients. This may mean that the manager has to send its crew back to the site or visit it personally to answer any questions the designer has with the survey. With the GIS Surveyor, as you can export everything together with various formats, there won’t be any doubts regarding the survey or location.

From a fellow surveyor “The current technology that most of my colleagues and myself use for the survey requires various workarounds to serve our needs. Such makeshift solutions don’t offer me the ease of use that I need to streamline the topographic survey process.”

The GIS Surveyor makes GIS Data Handling and land surveying easy and convenient.
Introducing The United States of America Land Surveyors Support Groups

Its been a long and interesting process, but I finally managed to get all 50 state-based social support groups up for the United States of America. The idea here is to create a place for every surveyor in the United States (and eventually the globe) to go and have all of their state based information all in one place-including the most up to date documents and events from their state board. And because state board websites (with the exception of a few) are for the most part out dated and operate like they were built in 1985, these groups give surveyors from each state a way to track important news, communicate with others in their state in a discussion format and create state-based events for others to attend.

The Next Step Involves You

In the links below you can click on the state name and find other surveyors in your state and the link beside the state is for the new state based social support group. I am currently seeking a few super surveyors (LSU Party Chiefs)who would like to take charge of their state and invite other surveyors from their state to join and become active. Also, if you would like to change the background image of your state to something other than the state flag, simply upload a photo to LSU with the title "{State Name} Group BG" or drop it into a discussion on that state's dedicated discussion board. I styled the groups to be simple yet identifiable for each state, but left the opportunity for 100% customization of each state open for you the members to choose. In the very near future, there will be a revenue sharing incentive for group moderators who recruit new members from their state. Group moderators will receive an official seal of "LSU Party Chief" to display on their profile and will become featured for their state.

We need exactly 9 members to reach our goal of 1000 United Land Surveyors this month. Please take a moment and join the state group for the state which you live and work. Then, invite other surveyors from your state using the invite form on the group. Together, we can take Land Surveyors United to a whole new level! I appreciate all of your participation and support of LSU and look forward to seeing how each of you represent the land surveying industry in your state! And for those of you who live outside of the US, you have the exact same opportunity by joining the group for your continent and soon we will be creating support groups for your individual countries of the world.
