The Process of BackSighting using Leica or Any Total Station

Please correct me if I'm wrong. Taking backsight observation is a process of aligning your horizontal circle. This is to make sure of the coordinate system consistency in the entire project. I guess that there is a unique case that you don't need to perform backsight observation for as long as you're very sure of backsight point information. Setting up fresh a total station is having its horizontal circle not correctly oriented. Horizontal angle difference or angle correction can be derived…See More

I am wondering how tilt compensator really works. Is it relative to the current plumbline or to the initial plumb line? I am asking this simply because anxiety is really there when my TS tilts over point occupation time. This is a reality that we can't avoid. Our TS really tilts over time due to many factors. As it tilts, plumb line shifts. My question is where tilt compenstation is made relative to? If it is made relative to the initial plumb line then it is a great relief for me and I don't…See More

GNSS Capability Under Heavy Foliage

Posted on September 28, 2010 at 9:18am 0 Comments

GPS L1/L2 position fixing incapability under heavy foliage is a thing of the past with the advent of GPS L5. This is according to GPS/GNSS sales people. With my very limited knowledge in telecommunication, I shall say without any degree of certainty that this is not true.

To my opinion, the only advantage of GNSS over GPS is the speed of position fixing. This is I guess due to greater number of navigation systems and channels supported. Greater number of satellites, channels,…

Good morning Arnel,
To answer your questiona about the 5700 and 5800 receiver, The biggest difference is the 5800 has a built in antenna, with the 5700 you need an external antenna, like a zepher antenna, The 5800 makes a better rover because it is lighter.
