Hi Peter: What about if you sidle into a land surveyor's office in your town, explain your situation and ask if they can suggest a program. Never know, they may offer their facilities and expertise in return for some fieldwork or something. You'll get to do you project, hopefully, with some mentoring, and you'll build a relationship for possible future employment.
