I have the ProMark3 RTK (PM3R) and no one so far can seem to show me a way to take the geoid09.geo file and convert it to a gsf file (geoid separation file) for my unit.  Randy Black was nice enough several years ago to create me a gsf of geoid03 for about a 150 mile radius of Tulsa OK but I am confused now when I try to figure out how.  Nothing that Ashtech (formerly Magellan Pro) has explains how to do it and I am certain it can be done.

I took the reduced area specific version in geo format and thought I could just change the name to gsf and it would work and be the same.  I even loaded it and told my units to use it.  I have not done RTK in a while so did not really get to test it.  But when I opened both files in notebook, the old file in gsf was readable in text format but the geo was in hieroglyphics (non-readable symbolic).

I suspect the reduce geo that I changed in extension name to gsf is not going to work.   Does anyone have a way to convert the file into a for sure usable format I can easily transfer using my SD like I am used to.  I hate to think of trying to cable transfer - always have a hard time getting those stupid com ports to work and never want to do a transfer that way again.

download gnss solution v 3.10.10 from magellan ftp site there's some tools there called geoid that helps me get my gsf for my area here in ksa. i wish this will help gary. God bless, happy GPSing.
I have downloaded it. Just like the past versions, it will create a custom file but not convert the geo to the gsf according to the manual and there is no instructions on how to physically create the file so I can put it on the SD then activate it in the units. I ran out of time to play with it and since the old program works great, I have not bothered to rock the boat, LOL. I tried the previous update and was not happy with it. So I am running two versions back. To be safe, someday I will try to install and play with the new one on my other computer so I will not mess up my working programs. Like I said, I have all the updates stored in my "installation files" folder for the newest version.
I agree Gary wise move not to dis rupte the money maker! :) When I hit the lottery so to speak I ntend to have a systme fully integrated to just handle the "Frontline" programing. Until them its safety first. Just launched my GPS Business, Called beyond Measure. So far so good.
Usually the supplier or Phil Stevenson can help me but now they insist on the wire connections, com ports and all that mess and changing the program out for the new version. Been there, done that - eats up my time will the children are at the dinner table needing food and electricity, LOL. They need to provide simple programs to keep us poor dirt surveyors doing what we do best. If they can and do, then we eventually can save up enough to buy more equipment from them. Times are tough so I must keep moving and working hard to get work and do work that puts food on the table. Why fix it unless it breaks. I attached the two files to my first post on this subject. One was the file I use and the other is the file that I need converted. I view both in a text view and they are different so just changing the extension will probably not do it from geo to gsf. I have not had any RTK lately to make it worth experimenting with the geo file that I have loaded with the SD card on that PM3RTK unit. I have yet to find anyone who could really explain what it does in that unit with or without the geoid file. With static I just download (with the old proven program) the local CORS and get what has been tested as very good vertical control for my elevation certificates. Recently I noticed that I do not have to wait 24 hours. So did Obama turn off the delay?
try investing to my country Philippines, GPS surveys are very rare. God bless.
here is about 150 mile radius or rectangle that I need the geoid09a.gsf file for:

geoid09 desired upper left 38.239258°/-98.967784°
geoid09 desired lower right corner 33.936713°/-92.557037°
therefore the upper right would be 38.239258°/-92.557037°
and the lower left would be 33.936713°/-98.967784°

See the Google Earth placemarks attached below this post. My office is at 36.120632°/-96.145900°

2 Should the Geoids module fail to connect to the field terminal, please
resume the above procedure in Manual Mode, i.e. clear the Automatic transfer
check box when Geoids displays the above dialog box. This will open the Surv-
Com window. From this window, you will be able to check the PC port settings
(cf. Options button), try again to connect to the field terminal (cf. Connect
button) and then, if the connection is successful, resume data transfer (cf.
Transfer button). In that case, the file that you would have to select in the left-
hand pane before clicking the Transfer button would be in the form
“.gsf” where is the name of the open geoid model (This file
contains the geoid data). The left-hand pane would be automatically posi-
tioned on the Temp folder where this file would have temporarily been stored.

locate this folder then copy the file "name.gsf" to your sd card or wherever, congrats for the publication.

usually it is in "c:\users\yourpc\appdata\local\temp" directory, you have to set your folders to show hidden folders and files, congrats to your recent publication.
What would you charge to go ahead and do that with the Geoid09a.geo, 89 KB that I included in my original post then post the Geoid09a.gsf file you created to your post or email directly to me? LOL, that would be much better. I have a nice FTP site that I welcome any surveyor to use. You can view some POS samples at it and other resources at http://www.gbreisch.com/gwb/client/POSsamples or see http://www.gbreisch.com/gwb/client/SurveyArticles - feel free to email me at [email protected] or [email protected] Thanks - Gary W. Breisch
hmmmn, check your email my friend coming from the mountains of saudi arabia, God bless
I got it. Thanks much - it looks good - I hope to try it soon. I assume it is only used with RTK when you log wild and let it pic the elevation calculations and in the GNSS when used to process Static locall without a tie to a CORS - do you know if that is correct?
