I am looking for advice on the following:

A client of mine is looking to set up a data base for numerous telecommunication towers and all amenities located on the tower. They are looking for the final output to be in revit so they can conduct a structural analysis with all the amenities removed from the structure.

As I am new to scanning and have never used revit, i am looking forward to taking on something new.

So whats needed;

Antennae

  • height to centre
  • ·         size ( be it diameter, size of panel, or height of pole type)
  • ·         Tilt  (if possible)
  • ·         bearing (true north)

Information supplied by owner of tower

Type (dish, panel, yagi,etc)

Make /model

Owner (needs to be colour co coordinated)

Size of feeder

Type of feeder

No. of feeders

Support pole size

Is it possible in revit to click on a certain antenna and show properties of this (see attached document for information needed to be associated with individual Antennas)

Information needed from scan of tower

Size of each member including thickness

Size of fixings, bolts etc

Holding down arrangement

Size of ladders and any connections to structure

Size and length of guy wires if any and holding down pads

Size of all secondary steel work that is used for holding off equipment from structure.

I have already scanned a test tower, processed and exported into revit (LAS file).

I am thinking of outsourcing the point cloud and photographic information to the likes of india where they would probably get this done in  day or two rather than taking myself a week or two to get an acceptable model client can work from. Any suggestions of companies would be great.

I was speaking to a Surveying sales guy who suggested that a GIS package might be the best way to manage these towers.

The scanner using is a trimble tx8 and processing in realworx then export to revit 2016.

I have attached photo of tower also.

Any help or advise would be greatly appreciated

Thanks in advance for your time and suggestions.

Carl
