Land surveying is a very significant task in the real estate industry. It requires a high level of precision and expertise to ensure that the land measurements and boundaries are accurate. As a land surveyor, one of the most important aspects of the job is calculation, which involves the use of various mathematical formulas to determine land boundaries, areas, and volumes.

One tiny miscalculation can result in significant problems, which can lead to costly legal issues. Therefore, it's essential to avoid some common surveyor calculation errors. In this article, we’ll discuss some of the most crucial errors a land surveyor must avoid to ensure accuracy in their calculations.

During a Limited Special Review in 1970 in England the parish council trying to get the status of a way changed from a Rupp to a Boat filled out a standard questionnaire. On this questionnaire they stated that the recorded definitive width of a way has been incorrectly recorded on the original map and statement as an average of 4 feet and should have been recorded as a minimum of 6 feet. The County Surveyor then went out and reported that the Rupp in question was suitable for re classification to a Boat. The definitive map and statement were changed to show this as a Boat however the width was not altered and to this day shows a stated width of an average of 4 feet. The Byway has boundary features along its entire length and at its narrowest is at least 6 feet (probably closer to 7 feet ). At its widest its about 16 feet. In the opinion of any Surveyors here who are familiar with this review should the width also have been changed on the definitive statement at this time to show the correct width in line with the Parish Councils comments. Also were surveyors at this time issued guidance as to what the minimum width should have been for a Boat under this review . Any knowledge would be extremely helpful and if any members can point me towards the guidance from this time or even show it that would be extremely helpfull.

obstructions have been placed outside of a property boundary wall that now narrows the byway to about 9 feet from12 feet. The council are saying this can't be an obstruction as there is over 4 feet of room still available and that any attempt to have the obstructions removed would be defended as a " Serious dispute " and give the magistrates court no option but to not enforce an order for removal. I'm arguing that had the map been updated as is the statutory duty of the council. A minimum of 6 feet would of course include a width of 12 feet.

Thank you in anticipation.

Surveying Newbiehttps://landsurveyorsunited.com/forum/topics/surveying-newbie2022-12-17T22:09:54.000Z2022-12-17T22:09:54.000Zgene polishttps://landsurveyorsunited.com/surveyors/genepolis

I'm looking for information on how to get into the surveying field.......where does one begin?

Promark 500, use external internet connectionhttps://landsurveyorsunited.com/forum/topics/promark-500-use-external-internet-connection2022-11-03T20:26:09.000Z2022-11-03T20:26:09.000ZDoukopoulos Konstantinoshttps://landsurveyorsunited.com/surveyors/DoukopoulosKonstantinos

Hello,

is there anyone who has achieved to connect his promark 500 (rover) with an external internet connection? Currently riding the struggle bus as the original manual is pretty slim and not comprehensive. Most of my work is in water resource sciences, performing topographic and bathymetric surveys for river engineeirng projects.

I'm only trying to use this (old, inexpensive) TS for simple local surveys in very rugged, WET, accident prone locations, thus why I have gone with the obsolete, vintage tool. I do not have a data collector. Really just trying to get local coordinates and topographic survey scratched into a notepad and put into CAD/HEC.

I have poured through the manual and have figured out how to reset the horizontal reference angle (zenith) to 0 degrees for a local survey and set the XYZ of the TS origin/station point to 1000,1000,100. I input target height & instrument height no problem. Sokkia prism constant is set to 0mm.

My problems arise when I shoot the prism for topo shots. When I sight the prism and take a shot, it goes through the motions with the EDM (I can hear it whirring), but it doesn't spit out the horizontal distance (HD), vertical distance (VD), or calculated XYZ coordinates of the ground shot. Instead, the output reads that the prism/target is located on the station point (1000,1000,100.83 - that extra 0.83 is weird). This happens regardless of where I move the target. When I check the measured distances of a shot using the keyboard buttons, it reads the slope distance (SD) - which appears to be accurate - but a horizontal distance (HD) of 0. Vertical and horizontal angles (VR, HR) appear to be consistent and accurate when I re-position the target back on the same ground shots.

Whats weird is it is calcuating the slope distance but not registering any horizontal or vertical distance. The slope distance appears accurate when I pull a tape from the EDM to the prism.

Other forums have suggested trying longer and shorter distances for ground shots, rebooting, re-set initial settings, pulling the batteries and letting the unit sit overnight, then trying again. Nothing changes.

I'm going to send it in for calibration (been stored 10 years) and service, but wanted to see if folks know of anything else I should try. Its a fun little unit - when it works! The last time I know it worked well was 2 winters ago..

Thanks

Looking for a Sokkia DOC210 data transfer cable or Hirose female connector of that cablehttps://landsurveyorsunited.com/forum/topics/looking-for-a-sokkia-doc210-data-transfer-cable-or-hirose-female-2022-08-31T19:33:08.000Z2022-08-31T19:33:08.000Zarjen Broenshttps://landsurveyorsunited.com/surveyors/arjenBroens942

I've got the old Sokkia NET2 Monmos (new Topcon MS1AXII) to hook up to a RS232 port.

Does anyone have a cable (DOC210) or a connector or the description of the female hirose connector that fits underneath?

All info is highly appreciated.

Thanks,

Arjen

Topcon PS-103A Power Station 3 Robotic Total Stationhttps://landsurveyorsunited.com/forum/topics/topcon-ps-103a-power-station-3-robotic-total-station2022-08-24T01:36:36.000Z2022-08-24T01:36:36.000ZStephen Wilkeshttps://landsurveyorsunited.com/surveyors/StephenWilkes

Up for sale is a Topcon PS-103A Power Station 3 Robotic Total Station kit in excellent condition, it comes with:

1x Topcon PS-103A Power Station 3
1x ATP1 360 degree prism
1x Topcon RC-5 Remote Control
1x Lens Hood For PS-103A
1x Battery charger
1x Hard carrying case with transport straps
1x Battery for TS

Asking for $8500

Pm me if interested.

Leica 1100 serieshttps://landsurveyorsunited.com/forum/topics/leica-1100-series2022-08-23T22:07:26.000Z2022-08-23T22:07:26.000ZMicheal D'Aubynhttps://landsurveyorsunited.com/surveyors/MichealDAubyn

Hey guys,

Over the years, I have accumulated a couple of Leica 1100 series instruments that have broken down in various ways. Rather than throw them out or sell them for parts, I have tried "mixing and matching" boards from those various instruments. Unfortunately, each instrument simply "doesn't see" the board from another instrument. Strangely, it seems to only happen with the numbered boards. I'm guessing there is something in the mainboard that says "Nope. You have the wrong number. I'm not allowed to talk to you."

Are there any gurus out there that have experience with this?
