There are some essential personal attributes.  You must be a land surveyor in your head bringing technical skills to the job that are beyond the comprehension of many people.  Even more importantly you must be a land surveyor in your heart with respect for the land and consideration for the people who depend on your talent.  When age and experience have diminished your strength it will be time to share what you know with young people who will replace you.

Surveying is what awakens me in the morning, keeps me mentally and physically active during the day, provides for my family, allows me to mentor young professionals seeking the skills I have developed over time, and rewards me with the satisfaction of knowing that every day brings the opportunity for learning something new, even after over 20 years of surveying.
