Ya know , i never had a problem before i couldn't fix in the settings until i recently purchased a trimble nomad with the USB instead like most DC's have the Serial Ports on them...
Even the Newer models TSC3 and Ranger have the Serial ports on them.. but the Nomad is USB .... I'll let yall know if the blue-tooth device is a success or not

Lets us know how you solve it,the cable should have work, but you have to do something.

Do you have another DC that works on this gun with a cable, or know some one that does.

so you can try it. good Luck

Yes Sir ! its a top con cable, (checked all the setting as well.) but i believe i found my solution last night.. they make a Bluetooth device that attaches its-self to the end of the serial port, that allows you to connect to the Top-con or any instrument with a data port.  check it out here ... thanks all for the input ... !  http://www.ebay.com/itm/122193052693?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&a...

Hi Robert,

Are you sure you have a Topcon Cable. There are different cables for each TS. In the DC did you set what device from a list. Do the Baud rates match, check the parity settings for this gun.But this cable has to be for a Topcon so the 9 pins are in the correct position. this is the first thing i would do. The baud rates must also match. But go thru the gun and the Dc on instrument communication setup . Your cable should have a name or a number for what Ts it is for. Also you can take the cable where it can be tested I have found bad new cables. A Topcon Tech can do this or Trimble. If it comes down to this.

Robert,

Sometimes my knowledge is helpful. Othertimes it is so superflous that it just clouds the issue. I hope I did not do the latter.

Robert, I have no knowledge of your equipment, as I am not a civil engineer. I am an electrical engineer and so I can share with you some experience with usb devices and cables.

If the cable you purchased is just a usb cable (no electronics imbedded in the cable ends or middle), then you need to know that usb is not just usb. USB has gone through many iterations. If we were talking about chips, most chips are backwards compatible, so that is not an issue.. But if we are talking about a "straight" (no internal electronics) cable, the cable might ONLY pass a USB 1.0 signal when you might need a USB cable that can pass USB 2.0 signals (much higher frequency). Check the specs on your Carlson and on your Topcon gts 301 to see what USB version you need.

If the cable has internal electronics...as most of your car computer connection (CAN) cables, you probably are encountering a very different story. The cheap CAN cables have a Chinese chip USB controller. it is a fake which does not work consistently. It has all the part numbers of the USA chip (which is patented) and so it is difficult to know you have a counterfit. the more expensive cables all have manufacturers who point this issue out and guarantee they use the correect part.

I would need to know more to help you. feel free to contact me here or at my email: [email protected]
