Contract Work Heavy Overtime

When I first started Land Surveying I would get offers to work on these massive jobs that offered outrageous overtime. I can't seem to find them anymore.I'm an extremely well rounded crew chief that knows the office and field from boundary surveys to laser scanning and construction layout.I'm at a really good company right now, but I'm looking for a year or two of crazy paychecks to get my wife's business off the ground. Does anyone know who's doing things like this right now?See More

William Kenter replied to Mohammad Salem's discussion To fix deference among total station survey and 3D scan survey
"If the scan team is using targets, then you need to also locate those targets. After that, you identify those targets in the 3D scans and use the coordinates you obtained with your conventional surveying and rotate the scans. I'm versed in…"

William Kenter replied to Mohammad Salem's discussion To fix deference among total station survey and 3D scan survey
"You technically do it the opposite way of what you are doing. 3D scans are fixed to conventional survey coordinates. If your scans and total station objects aren't the same distance apart, then one of them is wrong. Either your traverse/control…"

"This is one of the easiest problems to have so you lucked out lol. Need to get other projections added to your controller. What brand are you using?"

William Kenter replied to James Wallace's discussion Free/cheap CORS networks in NSW
"Make your own network. Buy a two unit set that can have internal modems. Perform a static survey on a point in the area you're working and just setup a base on it. Broadcast via internet connection and viola."

William Kenter replied to Heidi Jackson's discussion Leica Infinity Software -Shift, Rotate, Scale
"Leica Cyclone is what we use for scanning, but eventually it all leads to CAD at one point because almost every client in the United States requires AutoCAD or Microstation. I'll be at the Hexagon Conference in 2018 if you'd like to share…"

William Kenter replied to Zac Large's discussion How to setup a new base point using Trimble TSC3 and Rover R8
"Jose is correct. We are talking within a half inch of accuracy basically. Repeating and averaging over multiple days will also help."

William Kenter replied to Zac Large's discussion How to setup a new base point using Trimble TSC3 and Rover R8
"The static achieves basically an Opus solution on a single point. Static is more for making entire networks of control where you have 3 or more units occupying points. RTK (which is what you're doing by using a base/rover) is just as accurate…"

William Kenter replied to Zac Large's discussion How to setup a new base point using Trimble TSC3 and Rover R8
"Ok. So to basically be on the same coordinate system as that peg, you'll need to do a single point transformation, or what most contractors would call a localization. Basically, set your base up in the new point and just hit the…"

William Kenter replied to Heidi Jackson's discussion Leica Infinity Software -Shift, Rotate, Scale
"Ask your dealer for help on this. Most of them can walk you through the corrections you're trying to do and they'll know if your license covers it. Typically, Leica will grey out options that you want to use or it will show you on license…"

William Kenter replied to Zac Large's discussion How to setup a new base point using Trimble TSC3 and Rover R8
"The answer to that varies based upon what you are trying to do. Is it supposed to tie into an existing control network or are you starting completely fresh? If you are using an R8 and setting a fresh point, I'd collect a half a day of data or…"

William Kenter replied to Heidi Jackson's discussion Leica Infinity Software -Shift, Rotate, Scale
"You can do this in the Leica software by modifying the reference and applying the rotation. The real question is if you paid that little extra to be able to do it with your license (as with all leica products). I'm not an expert, but I've…"
