Recently came across 3 paid up mineral leases that described properties by referencing descriptions
over 100 years old, skipping several generations of owners. Very odd. Has anyone encountered this?
Didn't Abbot give the county clerks more responsibility for reviewing the documents they filed? Any input would be greatly valued.

Most of the mineral rights were given away 100 years ago. The descriptions are typically of that age. I do not know about any directives from Abbott but I do know that there have been complaints by LSLSs that some County Clerks were refusing to file documents for them or filing them in the Deed Records where they are not suppose to go. Typically the General Land Office in Austin can be of great help in locating these older descriptions. I hope this is helpful.
