  • Congradulations on your degree in Land Surveying and I wish you the best in your career. I've been practicing land surveying for about 5 years know, in RI, and have found this to be by far the most rewarding job I've ever had. I would sugest taking in as much advise as possible from your senior Land surveyor (ask lots of questions), as well as reading as many books on relevant subjects in Land Surveying as possible. If your interested in GPS I strongly sugest GPS for LAnd Surveyors by Jan Van Sickle. This was one of the best publications on GPS relevant to the Land Surveying profession. As far as field notes go, each place you work is going to have different ways of taking there field notes. My suggestion to you and your company is that your field notes are able to be understood by other surveyors without having to ask any questions. I sat for the LSIT in April and would suggest learning the laws, GIS, & photogrammetry as well as being fluent in trig, algebra, and calculus. Hope this helps and good luck.
