Land Surveyor

Network survey

Hey guys,

First post here but been reading for a while now. I would like to know how do you do network surveys, do you use projection on your total stations or you do war survey and then adjust network with projection parameters?

I was talking with a friend and he says that you should do raw survey and then adjust with projection. I was allways doing everything with projection. And we are talking about coordinates that are in projection in their final state.

Cheers

Network survey or triangulation is entirely different from an ordinary survey operations. The coordinates of the coordinated points must have to be fixed exactly on their geographical point. Network surveys are always needed to be carried out with the highest accuracy so as to fix the geographical points in their in-situs. Because of the accuracy involved, projection method may not really gives what you want.

Can you please elaborate as to where I may find that information for moving forward on that.

    I fully agree with William.

Depends on how you want to attack it. I perform the survey in the projection completely. You just need to know your scale factors when using a total station or laser scanner.

The benefit is knowing coordinates at the time of survey instead of having to post process.

I too prefer to have the projection information rather than to go for back-office data processing
