You need not only 1 application if you wish to get the best. You need one for mapping (AutoCAD Civil 3D), one for field work/surveying (Fieldgenius or SurvCE), and another one for data reduction (Star*Net).

For Land Surveying I'd say MicroSurvey, cheaper and much better for Cogo.
Not sure what you are surveying when you "road traverse", if these are the horizontal alignment elements then I'd use MicroSurvey as well.
MicroSurvey will also do simple two surface volumes, contours etc, but if you need to do something more complicated then AutoCad/Softdesk or whatever name it goes by would by better.
For fieldwork I'd recommend Survey Pro. We have Field Genius too, but I find it hard to work with.

tnx sa info 'boss.. ^_^

Hi Arie!

I am a Fieldgenius/SurvCE/SDR33 user. They are all powerful data collection systems. I know Survey Pro is very powerful too and hope to be a user some day.

Thanks for sharing. :)

Regards.

Hi Arie!

In my opinion, Fieldgenius has the best GUI design. Pretty intuitive. It's object oriented approach provides faster interaction between system and user. SurvCE's GUI design is quite procedural. Fieldgenius is superior in offset routines.

Regards.

Charlie, AutoCAD with LDD is what I use since I am most familiar with this platform. I eventually want to get my hands on AutoCAD Civil 3D as I have seen what it can do and it is pretty impressive, but very expensive. I have purchased Traverse PC and do like what it offers as it will do just about anything that AutoCAD can and has some useful programs built in that CAD does not such as Least Squares adjustments, It is also very cheap in comparison. I just have not had the time to learn how to draft at a pace that I'm satisfied with, though...just too used to CAD. As far as the field goes, Survey Pro is what I like the best thus far.

what program is LDD boss??

wabt to try that one

Some call it LDT. Others call it LDD. It was originally named as Autodesk Land Development Desktop (LDD). It was later renamed to AutoCAD Land Desktop (LDT) as it is an AutoCAD based application.

LDT is now unfortunately dead as it already abandoned by Autodesk in terms of future development.
